#18 How to Open Local Markdown Files?
Multiple ways. Drag & drop, use the menu, or just double-click if you've installed PenPage as an app.
Method 1: Drag & Drop
The easiest way — drag your files or folders directly onto PenPage.
| What you drag | What happens |
|---|---|
| Single .md file | Imports the file |
| Folder | Imports entire folder structure with all .md files |
| Multiple files | Batch imports all files |
The app automatically detects and skips duplicates based on content hash.
Method 2: Settings Menu
- Click the ⋮ menu (top right)
- Choose Open MD → select individual .md/.markdown/.txt files
- Or choose Open Folder → select a directory to import entire folder structure
Method 3: Direct Open (PWA)
After installing PenPage as a PWA (see #10 Install the App):
- Chrome/Edge 102+: Right-click any .md file → "Open with PenPage"
- Set as default: Double-click .md files and PenPage opens automatically
- Note: File association requires Chrome/Edge 102+ and PenPage installed as PWA
What's included?
