#21 Custom Themes
Make PenPage yours. Create custom color themes, assign them to workspaces, and sync across devices.
Open the Theme Editor
- Tap the gear icon to open Settings
- Find the Theme dropdown
- Select "+ New Theme" at the bottom of the list
- The Theme Editor opens
The 8 seed colors
Every theme is built from 8 base colors. Pick the ones you like — PenPage derives the rest automatically.
| Color | Controls |
|---|---|
| Base | Editor background |
| Surface | Toolbar / navigation bar |
| Sidebar | Folder & page list background |
| Text | Primary text color |
| Accent | Highlights & headings |
| Selected | Selected item background |
| Code | Code block & Markdown background |
| Border | Borders & dividers |
A live preview updates as you adjust each color — what you see is what you get.
Save & manage
- Tap Save to store your theme (up to 10 custom themes)
- To edit an existing custom theme, select it in the dropdown and tap the edit button
- To delete a custom theme, open it in the editor and tap Delete
Per-workspace themes
Each workspace can have its own theme:
- Switch to the workspace you want to customize
- Open Settings → Theme dropdown
- Pick any built-in or custom theme
- That workspace now uses its own look
Switch between workspaces and each one shows its assigned theme.
Sync across devices
Custom themes sync automatically via Google Drive (stored in a separate themes.json file). Sign in with the same Google account on another device — your custom themes appear there too.
Built-in themes
PenPage includes several built-in themes (Light, Dark, and more). These are always available and can't be deleted. Custom themes sit alongside them in the dropdown.
